Having difficulty learning vocabulary or having trouble understand literary elements of a text? Quizlet allows you to practice vocabulary and understand literary elements of a book through countless of premade flashcards or your own. Quizlet also you to save and share any flashcards you create! Even more important, Quizlet makes your flashcards into games. I won't be making flashcard specific for our class because it is your responsibility to study! Also, since hundreds of students use Quizlet it is likely you can find premade flashcards for the books we read. I highly recommend making your own so that it can advance you in learning the material faster!

Are you tired of spending so much time erasing and rewriting words just for an outline for class? Students, I introduce you to Essay map, an interactive tool that takes you through each part of the outlining process. The specific outlining steps this tool takes you through includes your introduction, body paragraphs, evidence and conclusion paragraphs. Not only will you be saving time, paper, and energy, but you will have developed a complete outline for your essay at the end of the process. Essay Map will now allow you to come relaxed to Ms. Chavez class, knowing you have every piece to your outline completed! Also, Essay Map lets you save your work so you can come back to it later, print your outline, and email your outline to others. English Honors 1 and American Literature will be require to use this interactive tool at least once. This will enable us to practice the use of technology and practice our outlining skills in an efficient manner. You will be required to email me your outline along with printing it out for class a day before the outline is due in class!

Chronos
As many of you know, they most basic way to improve our vocabulary and critically thinking skills involves lots of reading! Many of us want improve our vocabulary and critical thinking skills, but dislike reading or have difficulty reading. Chronos is a great tool for all levels of English readers to practice vocabulary, as this game puts players into a timed scavenger hunt and must search for the targeted word. Players must think strategically and critically to be able to find the word as fast as they can! Players may choose to play at different levels and choose their own aesthetically pleasing background for their game. Now, to make Chronos sound even more fun and more desirable, I challenge you to invite a friend or parent to see who can achieve the highest score in the least amount of time! If you decide to challenge a peer from our class bring a picture of each of both playing, both will receive a special prize!

MakeBeliefsComix
*EXTRA CREDIT WARNING*
MakeBeliefsComix is a great way to practice your writing skills and creativity skills by building your own story through the comic book form! This tool provides a variety of images, backgrounds, and fill in bubbles to add to your comic strip. I highly recommend trying this tool out for fun! I am also offering extra credit to those who decide to create a comic strip based on any of the pieces of literature we encounter in class or any of the texts I recommend on the page "Fun Reads For Everyone". Ms. Chavez is also willing to break her extra credit policy, noted on "Classroom Rules and Policies", extending this opportunity to those who have more than one unexcused absence. |

Skillswise
Skillswise offers one-minute videos and quizzes for those who would like to become more proficient in English or simply brush up on their English skills. Skillswise covers a variety of English topics including lessons on reading, writing, spelling, parts of speech, grammar and communication skills. Whether you think you have mastered the English language or not, I recommend taking a look at these topics as a review! Now, this resource will not be required assignment worth class points, nor will I be granting extra credit. Also, I recommend you encourage parents and other peers to take a look at this website. We all can use a little brush up on our English skills!
